Concerned About Your
Child's Worsening
Nearsightedness?

Myopia in children isn't just about stronger glasses every year - it's a progressive condition that increases lifelong risk of serious eye disease. We have proven treatments that can slow it down.

Child Eyecare

Signs your child's myopia may be progressing faster than normal

New glasses needed every 6-12 months
Squinting to see the board at school
Sitting very close to screens or TV
Headaches after visual tasks
One or both parents are nearsighted

Myopia is more than
a vision problem - it's a health risk

01

Progressive Eye Elongation

Myopia is caused by the eye growing too long. Each increase in prescription reflects more elongation - and a longer eye is at increased risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular disease later in life.

02

The Critical Window

Myopia typically progresses fastest between ages 6 and 16. Starting myopia control treatment early - before large prescription increases occur - produces the best outcomes for long-term eye health.

03

Beyond Just Stronger Glasses

Standard glasses and contacts correct vision but do nothing to slow progression. Myopia control treatments actively work to reduce the rate at which the eye continues to elongate.

Proven treatments to
slow your child's myopia

1

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Specially designed lenses worn overnight gently reshape the cornea. Your child sees clearly all day without any lenses - and the treatment actively slows eye elongation.

2

MiSight® Daily Contact Lenses

FDA-approved daily disposable lenses specifically designed to slow myopia progression in children ages 8-12. Comfortable, easy to use, and clinically proven.

3

Atropine Therapy

Low-dose atropine eye drops have strong clinical evidence for slowing myopia progression with minimal side effects. Often used alone or combined with other treatments.

4

Lifestyle Guidance

We counsel families on screen time, outdoor activity (proven to be protective), and reading habits that support healthy eye development alongside clinical treatment.

Act before the prescription climbs higher

Myopia control doesn't reverse existing myopia - but it can significantly reduce how high the prescription grows, protecting your child's ocular health for life.

What parents ask us
about myopia control

The earlier the better. Most myopia control treatments are appropriate starting around age 6-8. Children who start treatment when myopia first appears - rather than after several years of progression - achieve the best outcomes.
Not necessarily - several treatment options exist including Ortho-K lenses worn only at night, daily contact lenses, and atropine eye drops. We'll discuss which option is most appropriate for your child's age, prescription, and comfort level.
More outdoor time is associated with a lower risk of developing myopia and is a healthy habit to include alongside clinical myopia-control treatment.
We'll evaluate your child's current prescription, rate of progression, corneal health, lifestyle, and age - and recommend the treatment (or combination of treatments) most likely to achieve the best outcome. There's no single answer that's right for every child.
